Create shared value

OneBlip is a new peer-to-peer sharing community platform enabling people to share their cars with trusted members of the community.

Leveraging collaborative consumption, OneBlip connects people through a powerful mobile app and gives them the means to make the best or most effective use of existing assets.

The more you share, the more valuable your car becomes.

Be smart and eco-friendly

OneBlip offers a new way of consuming by sharing assets without having to own them. Modern-day consumers want to reduce their expenses and no longer want to spend money on goods they do not make sufficient use of.

Sound at all like yourself? Well OneBlip is the perfect solution for you.

By using smart technologies to enable the exchange of goods at low costs, OneBlip meets the needs of today's changing generation, who prefers sharing rather than buying and owning. The strategy not only benefits society but avoids overconsumption, introducing a more environmentally friendly method of travel and in turn reducing our carbon footprint.

Save time and money

We have made it easy for you to drive a car whenever you need one.

It only takes a couple of minutes to join for free and a further few seconds to find and book a car within walking distance from your place. You are then ready to drive and pay as you go, remembering that membership is free.

You can share your city car as swiftly as you can rent one by simply setting your car's availibility and hourly rate. You can also decide to restrict your car's accessibility to your friends only.

Every weekend, my children rely on me to drive them to their sporting activities. I have a small car with easy parking and low petrol consumption. We use the car throughout the weekend and with OneBlip we can share it with my friends during the week to offset the purchasing cost.

Sylvie, Mother of two

I am in my final year of studies at uni and cannot yet afford to buy a car, nor live by myself. I always have my smartphone with me and the OneBlip app makes it easy to book a car. I like the low all-inclusive pricing as well as not having to worry about membership fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Joining the OneBlip Car Sharing community

OneBlip Car Sharing is a new peer-to-peer car sharing community in Australia. Trusted members from the community can conveniently share their city cars, using their smartphones. Peer-to-peer car sharing is different from car pooling and car rental. It is already widespread in the US and in Europe, where petrol prices are high and smartphones are everywhere. People who own a car are happy to rent it for short periods of time to other community members who don't feel they need to own a car to drive one.

You can join OneBlip Car Sharing within minutes and membership is free. However, you will have to:

  • be at least 25 years old,
  • have held an unrestricted Australian Driver Licence for at least two years and
  • have never been convicted or suspended from driving.

You will also need a PayPal account and a smartphone.

Download the app on your smartphone and once you have registered you can start driving as soon as an existing member will have endorsed your application.

No, sorry... you can only use OneBlip app if you have a full Australian Driver Licence held for at least 2 years.

 Booking a OneBlip car

You can book a car up to one hour before picking it up. Launch the OneBlip app and check the exact location of the nearest car available. Once you have selected it, if you are happy with the hourly rate and drop off time limit set by the car owner, just tap the "reserve" button.

When you are ready, walk to the car, tap the "proceed with booking" button to confirm your booking, scan the QR code located on the windscreen of the car and unlock the car doors with your smartphone. Then get the keys located inside the car and start driving.

When you come back, park the car as close as possible to the pick up address. Remember to check parking signs beforehand. Put the car keys back where they were, tap the "end booking" button and once you are outside of the car scan the QR code again to look the doors and trigger the end of your booking. You will receive a detailed invoice by email and your PayPal account will be charged automatically.

Yes you can. Just launch the OneBlip app and scan the QR code located on the windscreen of the car and then, if the car is available and if you are happy with the hourly rate and drop off time limit set by the car owner, just tap the "start booking" button, unlock the car doors with your Smartphone, get the car keys located inside the glove box and start driving.

All cars shared by OneBlip members are small 'city cars'. They are all:

  • Recent models (less than five years old)
  • Low petrol consumption
  • Low environmental footprint
  • Easy to drive in urban areas
  • Featured with a valid e-tags for tolls.

Examples of city cars makes and models are:

  • Suzuki Alto & Suzuki Swift
  • Nissan Micra
  • Toyota Yaris

OneBlip car sharing membership is free. Each trip costs you:

  • a standard booking fee
  • a rental cost, based on an hourly rate set by the car owner and the borrowing time charged by the minute.

Please note, the borrowing time cannot be less than the minimum borrowing time set by the car owner. You don't have to pay extras for the kms, tolls, petrol, insurance or cleaning. If you cancel your booking, forget to pick up the car within one hour of your reservation, drop it off late or too far from the pick up address then you will be charged penalties to compensate the car owner.

Generally, cars are booked for short periods of time but you can book a car for as long as you like as long as it is:

  • no less than the minimum borrowing time set by the owner
  • no more than the maximum borrowing time set by the owner.

In any case, you have to drop off the car before the availability time limit set by the car owner. Late return will attract a penalty fee which will based on the hourly rate and the delay time charged by the minute. So if you have borrowed a car for 2h30mn and dropped it back 30mn after the time limit set by the car owner you will be charged:

  • a standard booking fee
  • a rental cost, based on the hourly rate set by the car owner and the borrowing time charged by the minute. 2h30 x hourly rate
  • a penalty for late return. 0h30mn x hourly rate

Yes, you have to return the car to within 250m of the pick up address. Otherwise, you will be charged with a distant drop off penalty which will based on the hourly rate and the distance from the pick up address in km. So if you drop off the car 2km away from the pick up address you will be charged:

  • a standard booking fee
  • a rental cost, based on an hourly rate set by the car owner and the borrowing time charged by the minute.
  • a penalty for distant drop off. 2km x hourly rate

There is no limit on the number of kilometres you can drive during your booking time.

If your plans have changed and you need to cancel your reservation, you will not be charged if your reservation is cancelled within the grace period (15 minutes), otherwise a cancellation penalty will apply and you will be charged:

  • a standard booking fee
  • a cancellation penalty equivalent to one hourly rate set by the car owner.

So if you cancel 45mn after your reservation time then you will be charged:

  • a standard booking fee
  • a cancellation penalty. 1h x hourly rate

 Driving a OneBlip car

At the start of your booking, you can unlock the car by launching the OneBlip app and scanning the QR code on the windscreen of the car. At the end of your booking, you can lock the car by scanning again the QR code. This will trigger the end of your booking. However, during your booking time, if you get in and out of the car, you can use either the keys or your smartphone to open and close the doors.

Smartphones should have Bluetooth 4 enabled ( iPhone4S or newer )

Once you have unlocked the car using your smartphone, you will find the car keys in the glovebox.

Once you arrive at the car, take a few minutes to check that the car is in good condition, outside and inside. If you find any damage larger than the size of your smartphone or if the car is significantly dirty outside or inside, take a picture and send some notes to OneBlip immediately using the Toolbox menu. Should you still like to use the car then confirm your booking.

Yes, by using the fuel card located in the glovebox. As a courtesy to the car owner or the next borrower, don't forget to drop the car off with a 1/4 full tank at least.

If the car does not have enough fuel, you will have to refuel the car yourself, by using the fuel card located in the glovebox. Also send a short report to OneBlip, using the Toolbox menu, and we will inform the owner.

Yes, if the car became dirty during your driving time, you should clean it, as if it was your own car and as a courtesy to the car owner and other borrowers.

If you reduce your booking time, you do not have to contact anyone. Just drive the car back to its initial pick up address and you will be charged for the time you have actually used the car by the minute. However, if you think you will not be able to drop the car off before the time limit set by the owner, then use the Toolbox functionality to call the car owner and make him aware of the delay.

Each OneBlip car is equipped with a valid e-tag and tolls are included in the hourly rate. Therefore, you don't have to pay any extra for tolls.

If you need road side assistance, open the OneBlip app and call the 24/7 road assistance by using the Toolbox menu.

No, you are not allowed to smoke inside a OneBlip car.

As a courtesy, you should notify the owner who will redirect the fines to you. In any case, you are liable to pay the fines that you are responsible for during your booking time.

Stay calm and pull over to a safe place. Take note of your approximate location (by using your smartphone if necessary) and if someone is injured, call 000 immediately. Otherwise, call the police if necessary and fill the Accident Report Form located in the glovebox of the car and eventually call the Insurer to report the accident. Then inform the owner, by using the Toolbox menu.

(757) 597-2503

You must return the car as close as possible to the spot where you have picked it up. If there is no parking spot available, then you should find a spot within a 250m radius. You can check on the app if you are within an acceptable distance from the pick up address If you don't, you will be charged with a Distant Drop-Off Penalty.

Put the car keys back where they were, tap the "end booking" button and once you are outside of the car scan the QR code again to look the doors and trigger the end of your booking. You will receive a detailed invoice by email and your PayPal account will be charged automatically.

If you return the car earlier, you will only be charged for the actual time you have used the car for (hourly rate charged by the minute).

If you return the car late, you will be charged a Late Return Penalty by the minute of overtime. As a courtesy and as soon as practically possible, you should also make the owner aware of the delay by using the Toolbox functionality.

If you return cars dirty, late or with low petrol, you will need to get them cleaned and refuelled to at least 1/4 of the tank. If you don't do that and regularly return cars dirty or with low petrol, your OneBlip User Rating will be negatively impacted. After a while, you will be notified formally and unless your behaviour improves, you will be excluded from the OneBlip community.

OneBlip is a Peer-to-Peer sharing platform based on trust between car owners and car borrowers, and also the strong belief that it is easier to prevent problems than to fix them. A good rating means on time return of the car, a clean car, a refuelled tank to at least 1/4. If drivers return dirty cars, late, or without refuelling them to the required level, their rating will decrease and car owners will refuse to lend their cars to members with low rating and they will be excluded from the OneBlip community and have their membership revoked.

You are charged as soon as the end of your booking is confirmed. You must tap the "end booking" button and once you are outside of the car scan the QR code again to lock the doors and trigger the end of your booking. You will receive a detailed invoice by email and your PayPal account will be charged automatically.

Sharing my city car via the OneBlip platform

City cars are small, urban cars, with low petrol consumption and a small environmental footprint, used for driving short distances. In Australia for example, Suzuki Alto, Suzuki Swift, Nissan Micra and Toyota Yaris are popular city car models. City car owners and people interested in sharing a city car via the OneBlip platform should contact OneBlip, using the Sharing Menu, and a OneBlip representative will contact you within 48 hours.

The owner of a city car who wants to share it on the OneBlip platform will be paid each time the car is rented, directly onto his or her PayPal account. The amount paid will be: Rental Cost less OneBlip management fee which is a percentage of the Rental Cost.

The driver of the car at the time of the damage or accident will be the one responsible for it.

Yes, and that is the beauty of the OneBlip community platform. The owner of the city car can decide to only allow OneBlip members they know to use their car and restrict the use of their car to their friends and acquaintances only.

OneBlip is not selling cars but is providing a community platform that allows people to share their city cars at a low cost and in a user-friendly manner. If you are interested in sharing your city car, or if you want to buy a new city car and make it available for sharing on the platform, fill in an application using the sharing menu functionality and a OneBlip representative will contact you within 48h.
